The rehabilitation team at MSK Québec consists of physiotherapists and physiotherapy technologists (T.phys.). Physiotherapists complete university studies, while physiotherapy technologists receive technical training focused on implementing rehabilitation treatment plans. Both professions are members of the Professional Order of Physiotherapy of Quebec and address issues affecting muscles, bones, joints, the neurological system (brain, nerves, spinal cord), the respiratory system (lungs), the circulatory system (blood vessels), and the cardiac system (heart). Their primary goal is to facilitate the restoration of physical abilities and autonomy as quickly as possible.
A physiotherapist assesses the patient from a functional perspective (how movement occurs, strength, range of motion, etc.) to help them regain maximum capacity. They are trained in designing a personalized exercise program to facilitate a return to daily, professional, and sports activities following an injury. On the other hand, the physiotherapy technologist intervenes after the physiotherapist or physician has assessed the patient's condition. The technologist can also provide valuable advice on posture and lifestyle habits to improve the patient's physical condition.
Together, these two rehabilitation professionals can use various physical modalities: manual therapy, manipulations, radial shockwave therapy, dry needling, electrotherapy, massage therapy, thermotherapy, etc. The selected methods address a range of issues such as back pain, sprains, dizziness, headaches, urinary incontinence, sciatica, torticollis, bursitis, tendinopathy, and joint pain.
